How Can You Obtain a Marriage License?

NOTE: Both parties must appear at the County Clerk’s Office to obtain a Marriage License.

When Should You Apply For Your Marriage License?

  • Apply at least one calendar day prior to the wedding. The license does not become effective until the day after it is issued. *For example, if you want to get married on Saturday, March 1st, you must obtain your license by Friday, February 28th*
  • The license is valid for 60 days after the effective date.

What Is Required Before You Can Obtain a Marriage License or a Civil Union?

  • A Government issued picture ID (Drivers License, State ID Card, Military ID) for both parties
  • A filing fee of $50.00 for the license.

What Other Requirements Are There?

  • You must be at least 18 years of age. Minors under age 18 but over age 16 may be married with the consent of parents. Both parents must appear at the time the license is issued and sign an affidavit consenting to marriage.
  • A license issued in Randolph County CANNOT be used in any other county or state. You must be married in the county where the license is issued, regardless of your county of residence.

Who Can Perform the Marriage Ceremony?

  • Any ordained minister or religious leader
  • The Circuit or Associate Judge
